About Dr. Lisa Duval

Dr. Duval is a clinical psychologist licensed in California and Virginia, with more than thirty years of experience helping people of all ages enrich their lives by finding balance and resilience in the face of life's inevitable challenges. She sees adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families through telehealth in both states.

Background and training: Dr. Duval earned her B.A. from Yale University (magna cum laude, double major in Psychology and English), her M.S. in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State University, and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. Her clinical training is psychodynamic in orientation — focused on understanding the deeper, often unconscious patterns that shape how we feel, think, and relate.

What sets Dr. Duval apart is a blend that's uncommon in one clinician: deep, genuine care for the people she works with, paired with a sharply analytic mind that sees patterns and helps patients look at their lives more honestly. She is both fully sympathetic to what her patients have lived through and willing to ask the harder questions that lead to lasting change.

Over the years, many of Dr. Duval's patients stay with her well beyond what first brought them in — discovering that the initial difficulty often sat atop deeper patterns worth understanding, and that the work can reach into many parts of their lives.
